Review: Stars Wars Andor
September 28, 2022
Set 5 years before the spin off Star Wars: Rogue One, Andor is a television show
that began streaming on Disney+ September 21.
Rogue One was a prequel to “Star Wars: A New Hope ” which focused on a diverse group of heroes who are on a mission to steal the plans of the Death Star, the Empire’s planet destroying
weapon.
Andor will focus on some of the characters that appeared in Rogue One during the time the Rebel alliance is forming against the Galactic empire.
The main character of the show, however, will be Cassian Andor. The role is potrayed by Diego Luna, a Mexican actor who also portrayed Cassian Andor in Rogue One. The series would primarily focus on Cassian starting out as a “revolution- averse” critic and follow as he becomes “the most passionate person who’s going to give themselves to save the galaxy” in Rogue One.
Rogue One was a commercial success and was well received by critics and fans alike, even if it was a spin off of the mainline Star Wars franchise movies.
“I don’t think it was a story that needed to be told but it [Rogue One] was still really good,”11, Jorge Moriel, an avid fan of the Star Wars series.
However, the existence of Rogue One creates problems for the show.
One of the biggest problems is the fact that since the characters that appear in Andor also appear in Rogue One, it lowers the stakes of the action as we will know who will survive in time for Rogue One.
This was a problem previous Star Wars shows suffered from, like “Obi- Wan Kenobi” and “Book of Boba Fett’, that fans pointed out. Another problem is “Andor” is going to build up to “Rogue One,” so the show is going to be in an awkward spot of being both a stand alone story and having to somehow make “Rogue One” a better movie.
“I feel like it [Andor] would keep it [Rogue One] the same, I don’t think it’ll add much to it,” 11, Moriel said.
Regardless of these issues, many fans are eager to see Cassian Andor and other returning characters over the course of the series.
