EPISD will hold its Fall Intersession from Wednesday, Oct. 8 through Friday, Oct. 10, giving students a chance to improve grades, recover credits, and prepare for state testing.
According to an assistant principal Emma Piñon the purpose of intersession has changed since it first began during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The original purpose of intersession in EPISD was to help students during COVID make up work they had missed during online learning,” Piñon said. “Now, five years later, intersession has evolved. We use it to help students who need extra time to complete assignments and improve their nine-week grades, support those working on Edgenuity courses for credit recovery, and provide STAAR EOC bootcamps for students who are retaking the exam in December.”
The three day intersession isn’t mandatory but gives students the agency to take corrective action before grades are finalized on Oct. 21.
“Absolutely. I strongly recommend that every student who was invited to intersession attend. It’s a valuable opportunity to raise your grades, complete Edgenuity courses, and set yourself up for success before the new grading period begins,” Piñon said.
The benefits, she added, are clear.
“Students can finish assignments or complete Edgenuity courses, which takes a huge weight off their shoulders going into the break. You’ll leave with a sense of accomplishment, knowing you put in the effort and are starting the next nine weeks on stronger footing. It’s the kind of opportunity I wish I had when I was a student at Franklin,” Piñon said.
She also noted that intersession looks different from a regular school day.
“Intersession is more individualized than a typical school day. Teachers are there to monitor progress, answer questions, and provide one-on-one support. Instead of a whole-class lesson, each student works on what they specifically need—whether it’s finishing an assignment, completing an Edgenuity course, or getting clarification on a difficult concept. It’s really centered around the student’s success.”
