The Wrestling Team is working to organize their annual 5K, an event that has been a tradition since 2011. According to Girl’s Wrestling Coach Paige Edwinson the idea came from a father who wanted to raise money while enjoying a good race.
“I was part of the team when this race started, and I had to run it all four years of high school,” Edwinson said.
This year, the event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, at Franklin High School. More than just a competition, the race aims to bring the community together and support the athletes in the program.

The money raised goes directly to the wrestlers. It pays for food, equipment, travel to out-of-town tournaments, tape, singlets, and headgear. Every dollar goes back to the athletes to ensure they have what they need to compete and train.
For the wrestlers, the community’s presence means a lot. Seeing family members, teachers, and local businesses at the event gives new meaning to their efforts.
“They light up and feel that support. It motivates them to work harder and give their best,” Edwinson said.
You don’t have to run to participate in the event. A one-mile walk is available for those who prefer a lighter activity. There are also volunteer opportunities, sponsorships, and non-monetary donations. This year’s goal is to exceed 300 participants and 20 sponsors, getting the community more involved than ever.
For those unsure about participating, the coaches and athletes agree: signing up is worth it! It’s a chance to have fun, exercise, and support a local team. Plus, everyone is welcome to participate, no matter your level, and feel the support of the community for the Franklin wrestlers.
Registration is open online at RunSignUp. The first 200 participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt, and everyone will enjoy refreshments at the end of the race. Trophies will also be awarded to the top three overall finishers in the male and female categories, as well as age-group prizes.
