This year has been a year like no other, and the presidential election has been no exception. It has not only laid bare the immense divide between the people and the government, but it has also removed the veil from the depravity of our country. As calamities piled up, more uncertainty surrounded the question of who would be the best candidate, and even after Joe Biden’s victory, that remains to be seen.

With concerns surrounding COVID-19, social justice, immigration, and the economy, expectations are high for President Biden.

In addition, the domestic terrorism events of January 6th, have made the country very unstable in a time already wrought with uncertainties, bringing about anxieties of a possible civil war, due to the growing divide between the government and the people, and the slow rebellion against our country’s democracy.

Many have accused President Trump of racism, misogyny and greed, which, to be fair, have certainly been apparent in his rhetoric.

But have these shameless displays made it easier for President Biden to claim his victory? With Trump bearing his soul on Twitter, we all know where he stands, but Biden’s secret weapon seems to be his ability to know when to stay quiet and how to read situations.

As someone who has worked closely with segregationists and racially questionable bills, his silence as opposed to Trump’s noise, is key.

For better or for worse, we are entering into a new age, and while the President is not much better than the last, we have made some progress. Kamala Harris is the first woman of color to be voted vice president, Biden seems to be attentive to administering COVID vaccines, and the people of America will continue working to cultivate this country. Because when it comes down to it, the people are what make America thrive, not the political leaders.
