The Aftermath of the Aftermath along the Border

To Move Forward You Have To Give Back- Oprah Winfrey

Less than two months ago The City of El Paso became another victim to a mass shooting. Not only were friends lost and families broken but the city was left fearful and hurting. The feeling of security was once something El Paso prided itself in, and although El Paso still ranks high on the list of the safest cities to live in America, to many of the people and families that live along the border town that statement no longer feels true. Moving forward from 22 deaths brought about from a single violent act has been difficult, some might argue that we haven’t moved forward since the shooting occurred.

Steps taken to prevent a situation like this from occurring again have been far and few, yet the support El Paso and the City of Juarez have received in the aftermath of insurmountable tragedy has been astounding. Monetary donations taking the form of change jars in front of restaurants and large checks addressed to the city, scholarship funds created for the children of victims, offerings of free cars and counseling, church services and candle lit ceremonies held in honor of the lives lost, blood drives, the sale of T-shirts, buttons, stickers, posters, banners, draw string bags and jewelry, rooms filled with flowers, and the cost of hearses and funeral services complete covered, all done in support of El Paso and to make a difference in the lives of those affected. Two months later, after fear reportedly defeated the boarder, El Paso and Juarez have become stronger together to face the growing terror.

Many associations linked to El Paso Strong’s donation list have already expired but it’s not too late to give.

As reported by KFOX14, as of September 5th,  $5.8 billion has been raised in support of the victims, and an additional $144,000 worth of cards has also been given.
