The golf team had a successful 6A District Tournament on Saturday, April 4, where Sean Keipp, Sarai Grenados, and Katelyn Sesich qualified for Regionals in Dallas TX.

Katelyn Sesich, who finished 5th on the girls’ side in golf, said that she is preparing for regionals similarly to any other tournament, saying, “I would say that I am preparing roughly the same way for regionals as a regular competition. However, for an out-of-town tournament you need to make sure that you have everything ready to fly since you will not be at your house.” She highlighted the individual nature of the sport, saying, “Golf is not as much a team sport as it is individual, it does not matter how the team does, it matters more how individuals on the team do. However, it is very important that you do not get down on yourself and forget about the bad shots.“ Reflecting on past competitions, she said, “I have learned that I have to focus on the future shots and not on the past.” Handling pressure is another key part of preparation.

Sean Keipp, who placed 2nd on the boy’s side in golf, said that he has learned things from past competitions that could help him, saying, “Just staying in it the whole time, stay and try your best.” Heading into regionals, Keipp emphasized consistency during practices, saying, “Honestly, I’m trying to do the same and not change anything up so I don’t throw myself off.” Looking ahead and getting ready in case of climate issues, “It can be tough with rain or wind, but just try to stay true to yourself and play the best you can.” In practice, he’s been working on “putting” overall and is hopeful for qualifying for the next level, which would mean a lot to both Keipp and the team.
